A power outage is also known as power failure which means the loss of electricity in an area. This can be short term or long term. A power outage can be caused due to different reasons like a short circuit, damage in the transmission line and one of the main reasons is a thunderstorm. At the time of power outage, the electric appliances stop working. But the main problem is not that. The main problem starts when the air conditioner stops working even after the power comes back on. In that condition you have to call a professional but before that, you can try this simple process.
Step 1: Turn off the Thermostat
A thermostat is a device which can automatically control the temperature, or which can stop or start a device when the temperature reaches a certain point. Turning off the thermostat will allow the air conditioner to stop cooling that will help you in restarting both breakers internal and external. If you have a thermostat which is operated by a battery, then this problem can be solved by changing the batteries. If you don’t have a battery-operated thermostat then follow the next steps.
Step 2: Find the Breaker Box and reset it
The breaker which is also known as an automatic device used for stopping the flow of current in a circuit as for safety. Usually when there is a power outage then the beaker box automatically trips due to overload in your air condition circuit. So, in this case, locate your breaker box which basically located in the outside of your homes like in garage, basement, or laundry. Then find the air conditioner or HVAC label in the breaker box. Then turn the switch to off from a neutral position and again turn it on.
Step 3: Wait for 30 minutes
After a power outage air conditioner needs some time to restart the internal and external breaker. During this time it is very important to keep the thermostat in off position. If the thermostat is at “on position” the breaker will not reset because the thermostat is calling for cooling.
Step 4: Turn the thermostat to cool
After waiting for 30 minutes. The last step is to turn on the thermostat. It will start the air conditioner. Always keep in mind that when you start the air conditioner after a power outage always set the temperature at least 5 degrees below the room temperature so that thermostat can cool for cooling.
